Following their studies in class related to the struggle of minority groups in the 20th century, students in the US/AZ History class were able to learn about the painful experience of Japanese American internment during World War II firsthand by exploring the Honor Camp, a prison camp that held Japanese Americans during the war, at Molino Basin on Mount Lemmon. Although much of the site was dismantled, the ghostly remains of buildings, radio towers, and barracks, as well as the Catalina Highway itself (which was built by prisoners at the site) served as stark reminders of the past.
However, a day on the mountain is always a welcome break from the classroom, so the students also made sure to have a little fun and enjoy the outdoors as well!
