The next big installment of the C2E Grant watershed restoration project took place on April 29th, with an all-school tree planting on Arbor Day! Orchestrated by the Arid Lands Management class, the students at Sky Islands planted a total of 42 native trees, which were donated by Trees for Tucson. On hand to teach the students about the importance of these trees and about how to properly plant them were Jessie Byrd and Amy Belk of the Pima County Native Plant Nursery. While most of the students worked out in the site, a small group also prepared a delicious snack and a full lunch for the whole school as well. It was a long day, but the excitement on everyone’s faces after knowing that they had contributed to such a lasting legacy here at the Rogers Commons was well worth the effort!
