Students hit the ground running during orientation week, where in addition to the usual overviews of policies, procedures, and school culture, they had an all-school scavenger hunt, as well as multiple variations of icebreaker activities. Engaging with each other and the staff in a variety of different ways helps to maintain the strong climate of trust, safety, and inclusion that makes Sky Islands unique.
Later on in the semester, students in the Events Planning seminar organized more community building activities, including a school-wide Spirit Week (pictured- ‘Twin Day’, ‘Formal Day’, ‘Anything but a Backpack Day’, and ‘Halloween Day’), and a Halloween Dance.
Other exciting news came from the Boxing seminar, where in addition to learning all the skills of the ‘sweet science’, students also created their own custom Sky Islands Boxing Club T-shirts!
