Fall Science Classes 2019

9th grade students in the Field Studies class partnered with representatives from Tank’s Green Stuff to study whether or not scorpions prefer wood chips compared to other mediums. The study involved constructing terrariums with various media to test their hypothesis, as well as an evening trip to Picacho Peak to work with company and park representatives as an extension of their own research. Following the conclusion of their study, the students presented their findings at the Society for Ecological Restoration’s annual conference.

Meanwhile, students in the Scientific Research and Design class, in partnership with Pima County Flood Control, collected real data on stream flow and plant density and cover at the Santa Cruz River Heritage Project site, as well as had a ton of fun getting in the water!
