Urban Horticulture Class Fall 2018

Students in the Urban Horticulture class began the semester by learning the ins and outs of harvesting our organic produce for our school’s kitchen, and prepared our existing garden beds for the cool season crops. With the aid of Sky Islands partner Little John and his backhoe, they also dug out a sunken bed, and then assembled and prepared eight new raised beds-effectively doubling our produce production capacity!

After the bed construction, the students then faced the task of digging the trenches and assembling the irrigation system. Once installed, all that was left to do was fill the beds, plant (including a row of heritage white Sonoran wheat), and wait!
