Field Trip to Rattlebox Farm and the Community Food Bank

Students in the Urban Horticulture and Culinary Arts classes got the chance to really see firsthand where their food is coming from by touring two of our food suppliers for the lunch program. At the Community Food Bank, the students saw the demonstration gardens and learned more from Kara Jones about small-scale urban farming and gardens as a way to reinforce food security, and saw the Food Bank’s massive warehouse and learned about how they operate on a daily basis.

At Rattlebox Farm, the students learned all about what it takes to start up a local farm and CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture) from its founders, Dana Helfer and Paul Buseck. They learned how the farm propagates, maintains, and harvests its produce, and got the opportunity to ask lots of questions about ways to improve their own farming operations here at the school.
