San Xavier del Bac Trip

Students in both the US/AZ History and the LA-10/ Reader’s Theatre classes toured the beautiful and historically significant mission of San Xavier del Bac as part of their studies in southwest and Arizona history. For the US/AZ History class, the trip was a chance to see an example of the early interactions between european missionaries and the indigenous people of the Tucson region firsthand. For the students in Reader’s Theatre, who have been reading ‘Zorro’ by Isabelle Allende, seeing the mission was a way to make the setting in the story, which is largely based in the southwest, come alive.
