Students from the Jefferson County Open School in Lakewood, Colorado have been studying the environmental, social, and political issues surrounding the US/Mexico border and the border wall. Their studies culminated in a week-long trip to Tucson to learn about the issues firsthand. While visiting, they made a special point of coming to Sky Islands to meet with our students and hear our perspectives on the issues, as well as to learn about our school and to see all of our exciting projects (plus get treated to a little classical guitar concert!). The visit was short-lived but fun, and both schools hope to spend more time collaborating in the future. This was especially exciting for Lukas, because it was his high school and the trip leaders were his former teachers!
