Wild Weather Workshop Summer Program

Sky Islands kicked off its first summer program this June, taught by Sky Islands’ teacher Zak Cushing, and Lindsay Maudlin, a doctoral student in Atmospheric Sciences, and local weather experts, including Andreas Hohl, weather photographer. The class traveled to KOLD 13 to meet weather anchor Erin Jordan and see first hand how weather forecasts are made (as well as experience the green screen!), toured the U of A’s Tree Ring Laboratory, the National Weather Service Center on the U of A’s campus, the Monsoon Safety Fair at Park Place Mall, and visited the Weather Squadron at Davis Monthan Air Force Base.  Students studied hurricanes, jet streams and ocean currents, as well as learned about Tucson’s local wild weather, particularly our unique monsoon weather patterns.
This June program is also the exciting start of the upcoming new Meteorology class in the 2015-2016 school year, taught by Zak Cushing.
