Gardening by Design Class Landscaping Project

Students in the Gardening by Design class applied what they’ve learned about both Japanese aesthetic design and southwestern permaculture practices by landscaping the front of the school, following up on the hard work that was done during the community work day. Features included cactus plantings laced with rock “river” terraces that are both beautiful as well as functional in minimizing erosion and holding back rainwater runoff, brightly-colored flowers under the olive trees that are pollinator attractors, and a Japanese dry rock garden or karesansui built with southwestern plants and materials.
