Dia de los Muertos Altar Project

The Themes in Literature class created a memorial to provide a space for the members of our community to celebrate, honor, and remember friends, relatives, pets, and others who have passed away. Memorials similar to this one have been created for thousands of years in communities and homes throughout the Sonoran Desert region and in areas of Mexico. In their studies of ritual, the students learned about the memorials to celebrate the dead created by the Aztecs over 4000 years ago, believing that the deceased preferred to be celebrated, rather than mourned.
